How to Delete Your Facebook Profile Permanently

Are you one of those rare people that rarely log into your Facebook (Fb) account? Like me, maybe you are not comfortable sharing personal information on such a public platform. If you wish to delete your Facebook profile permanently, here are some simple tips to do so without losing any of your precious data.
Dos and don’ts regarding Fb profile deletion

There are some important things you need to take care of before you delete your profile:

  • Address Book: When you are contemplating deletion of your Fb Id, you will still wish to keep in touch with your friends via. To copy the email id of a Fb friend, click on the contact image. You will see that person’s profile. Click “About” and scroll down to “Contact info”. Copy the email id onto text file for future use. In the same way copy other emails ids, phone numbers, and other information available for all your Fb friends. Save this data in an alternate email id and sync it on your smartphone or tablet. Now you can reach your contacts irrespective of Fb.
  • Media Files: In the first days of Fb mania you may have uploaded a number of photos and videos that you didn’t bother to save on your PC. It is always available on Fb, so why bother cluttering your disk memory! Now it is time to save these beautiful memories of parties, vacations and other fun stuff onto a disk drive before taking the big step of deleting your Fb profile.
  • Mobile devices: Most people remain logged into their Fb accounts on their smartphones, tablets, and/or notebooks without logging out every time. Before deletion of your account, you have to log out from the profile on the PC as well as every mobile device from where you log into your account. This is crucial otherwise the deletion process gets negated. To be on the safe side, just remove the Fb app from your device so that you don’t remain logged in by error rather than intent. In any case you won’t need them anymore.
  • Un-tagging: Email all your friends that you intend deleting Fb account and they should un-tag you in their photos. This is not mandatory but optional. If you don’t like Facebook but don’t mind if your friends can still access your information, they why bother.
Permanent deletion of Facebook account
The place to go to do this is Facebook itself. Your account can be permanently deleted in these simple steps; all you have to do is follow the instructions:

Copy this link into the address bar of your browser: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account. Enter your login id and password.
Click the buttons “Delete My Account” and “Okay” and your profile is ready for deletion. Now if you log into your account in the next 14 days, your deletion request gets negated automatically. So if you serious about removing your Facebook profile completely, please do not log into your account on your PC or through mobile devices.
The 14-day wait is mandatory to accommodate those who might change their minds about deleting their Facebook account permanently. During this period you will receive Fb emails asking if you really wish to delete or if you have changed your mind. If you are unsure, just log into your account within these 14 days and the deletion request is gone. But you will not be able to log into your profile after a fortnight’s wait. The effect is now permanent and you cannot restore your account with the same login id.
